Contacts and custom fields
The people behind the conversations, the details you keep on them, and how to record what matters to your business.
Every direct conversation has a contact behind it, created automatically the first time someone messages you. You don't have to add anyone by hand.
What's on a contact
Name, phone number, labels, and the deals or tickets attached to them. Their whole conversation history sits alongside, so you never have to go looking for context.
Renaming a contact in Tenashi changes what your team sees. It doesn't change anything on the contact's side.
Key contacts
Mark someone as a key contact and you'll be alerted when they message, so an important customer doesn't sit unnoticed in a busy inbox.
Custom fields
Every business tracks something the next one doesn't. Custom fields let you record yours — account number, plan tier, renewal date, region, referral source, whatever your team keeps asking each other about.
Define them in settings, then fill them in from the contact panel beside any conversation. They're searchable and exportable.
Labels
Labels group conversations however you like — by product, region, urgency, source. They also drive access: a member can be restricted to conversations carrying particular labels, which is how agencies keep one client's chats separate from another's.
Saving a contact card
When someone shares a contact card in a chat, you can save it as a contact or start a conversation with that number in one step, rather than copying the number out by hand.
Exporting
If your permissions allow it, you can export contacts. The export includes custom fields, so it's genuinely useful in a spreadsheet rather than just names and numbers.
