Group chats

Group chats appear in the inbox alongside direct conversations, tagged group. You can filter to them with the Groups filter.

Reading a group

Every message shows who sent it. Where a participant isn't in your contacts, Tenashi shows their number rather than inventing a name.

WhatsApp increasingly hides participants' phone numbers for privacy. When a number genuinely isn't available, you'll see a neutral label rather than a fabricated identifier — Tenashi would rather show less than show something misleading.

Replying

Reply to a group as you would any conversation. Quote a specific message when several threads are running at once, which in a busy group is most of the time.

Reply privately takes a conversation out of the group into a direct chat with one participant, carrying the quote with it.

Creating and managing groups

From the inbox you can create a new group, and for groups where your number is an admin you can:

• change the subject and description
• add, remove, promote and demote participants
• fetch the invite link

Follow-ups on groups

Follow-ups work on group chats, not just direct messages, so you can set a reminder to come back to a group thread that isn't resolved.

A note on notifications

Groups can be noisy. Unread counts treat a group like any other conversation, so a busy group will keep raising its badge. Archiving a group you don't need to watch closely keeps the main list usable — it will resurface if you're mentioned or when you go looking for it.
