Who Viewed My WhatsApp Status? What the List Shows

To see who viewed your WhatsApp status, open Updates, tap My status, tap the status, then tap the eye icon (Status Views). That list is the only record WhatsApp gives you, and its help pages only describe it for a status that's still up.

It also depends on read receipts. If you've turned yours off, you can't see who viewed your statuses, and if a contact turned theirs off, you can't see whether they viewed it.

Where to find the viewer list

WhatsApp's help center gives these steps for the viewer list on Android and iPhone:

  1. Open the Updates tab.
  2. Tap My status.
  3. Tap the status you posted.
  4. Tap Status Views (the eye icon).

On WhatsApp Web, click the Status icon, then My status, and while the status is displayed click the eye.

The list shows the people who viewed that status. Anyone who likes it is marked with a green heart. If you added a reaction sticker to your status, WhatsApp says the sticker reactions show in the same eye-icon view. A viewer can tap that sticker as many times as they like, but you're only notified once.

One oddity WhatsApp explains: if an unknown phone number can view your statuses, a contact may have changed their number.

Why someone is missing from the list

If you know a person watched and their name isn't there, the cause is one of these, all from WhatsApp's own pages:

ReasonWhat happens
You turned off read receiptsYou can't see who viewed your statuses. You see an eye-with-slash icon instead of the list
They turned off read receiptsYou can't see whether they viewed your status
They aren't in your status audience and weren't mentionedThey can't view it at all, so they won't appear

Two of those rows come down to read receipts. The setting is at Settings > Privacy > Read receipts (on Android, open More options first), and WhatsApp says turning it off means you might not be able to see who views your status. It also works the other way around, which we describe in WhatsApp read receipts off.

Who can see your status in the first place

Your status isn't public. By default your contacts can see your statuses, and WhatsApp says you can't set status privacy to Everyone or share your status with people who don't have your number. You choose an audience from the status screen, where the button shows your current audience (Contacts by default).

That means the viewer list can only ever contain people you allowed. A stranger can't watch your status and so can't be missing from the list.

Can you see the list after 24 hours?

A status disappears from view after 24 hours. WhatsApp's help pages say how to open the viewer list while the status is available, but they don't describe a viewer list for an expired status. So we can't tell you that the list stays available afterwards. Plan to check it within the day.

How long a status stays up, and what changes that, is covered in how long a WhatsApp status lasts.

Can someone see how many times you viewed their status?

WhatsApp's help pages don't describe a view counter per person, or show a count of repeat views. The viewer list is described as showing who viewed. So there's no documented answer for "how many times", and any app claiming to give one isn't using anything WhatsApp publishes.

Seeing a status without them knowing

Some readers want the opposite: to watch a status without leaving a mark. The documented method is the read receipts setting above, which works both ways: you stop appearing, and you stop seeing others'. We go through it in how to view a WhatsApp status without them knowing. If you can't see a person's status at all, see why you can't see someone's WhatsApp status.

Apps that promise secret viewers

Apps and sites that claim to reveal "secret" viewers can't see anything WhatsApp doesn't show you. The only list is the one in the app, and it follows the rules above. Tools like these ask for risky permissions. We'd stay away from them. For profiles, WhatsApp says plainly that it isn't possible to see who viewed your profile.

Status as a business announcement channel

A small business can use status as a free announcement board: new stock, a sale, a closing day.

It has limits. By default only your contacts see it, and WhatsApp says you can't share a status with people who don't have your number. That's a real gap when your customers are mostly people who messaged you once and never saved you. The status disappears in 24 hours. And the viewer list tells you who looked, not who is interested.

Where Tenashi fits

Tenashi doesn't show WhatsApp statuses at all, and it can't show who viewed one. Status stays inside WhatsApp itself. If you need to know whether an announcement reached customers, a message to a list is easier to measure than a status.

On the Growth plan you can send broadcasts from your connected number, and WhatsApp broadcast analytics shows what to look at afterwards. Replies land in the shared inbox, where any teammate can pick them up and assign the chat. That covers chats on your own connected business number, from the day you connect it. More on the set-up is in our guide to WhatsApp for business.

FAQ

How do I see who viewed my WhatsApp status?

Open the Updates tab, tap My status, tap the status, then tap the eye icon (Status Views). The list shows who viewed it, and a green heart marks anyone who liked it. It only works if you haven't turned off read receipts.

Why is who viewed my WhatsApp status not showing?

The cause WhatsApp's own pages give is read receipts. If you turned them off, you can't see who viewed your statuses. If a contact turned theirs off, you can't see whether they viewed yours. A person outside your status audience can't view it.

Can you see who viewed your WhatsApp status after 24 hours?

WhatsApp says statuses disappear after 24 hours, and its help pages describe the viewer list only for a status that's still showing. They don't say the list is kept afterwards. Check who viewed your status within the day.

Can you see who viewed your WhatsApp status secretly?

No. There is no hidden list. WhatsApp shows one viewer list in the app and no app can reveal more than that. Third-party apps that claim to do it can't, and they ask for risky permissions, so avoid them.

Can someone see how many times I viewed their WhatsApp status?

WhatsApp's help pages don't describe a count of repeat views. The viewer list is described as showing who viewed the status, with a green heart for likes. So there is no official statement that repeat views are counted or shown.

The eye icon is the only viewer list WhatsApp gives you, so check it while the status is still up. For replies from the people who did look, get started with Tenashi.
